Sana’a – (Thursday, March 19, 2015)

Mwatana Organization for Human Rights has condemned the assassination of the political activist and writer Abdulkareem Alkhaiwani who was shot dead near his house on Raqqas street downtown Sana’a on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.
Radhiyah Al-Mutawakil, the Director of Mwatana Organization for Human Rights, said,”The assassinations targeting political and military figures will escalate the state of tension, injustice and instability and fuel the cycle of violence”
She also pointed out that, “The failure of the security apparatus to investigate into those incidents, to reveal their accompanying circumstances and to prosecute perpetrators and masterminds will adversely affect the public peace and cause people to break faith with the security apparatus as well as the state institutions.”
Mwatana has stressed that tampering with the state institutions, the conflict between parties and the suspension of the constitution and the law provides a breeding groundfor violence and assassinations. It also added that all parties should bear responsibility for the deteriorating situation resulted from their faults.
Mwatana has reiterated that the failure of the security apparatus to seriously and responsibly deal with the previous assassinations’ incidents and bring the offenders to justice has led to the persistence of assassinations.
Mwatana Organization for Human Rights has called for transparent investigative mechanisms into the assassinations, and advised concerned authorities to take advantage of the best of both local and international relevant experts to form an investigation team that have the ability to reveal the truth behind those incidents and persecute those responsible bringing them to justice in order to close this file and do justice to victims.
