May the joy open its heart to all of you.

April 21,2023

This Eid may be a little different. At least we can take comfort in the fact that almost 900 Yemeni detainees have been reunited with their families, bringing them and their loved ones immeasurable joy.

The conditions for a comprehensive peace agreement are also more favorable than ever before. Just as war was a private and selfish interest of political minorities, lasting peace is in the interest of the majority of Yemeni civilians, whose entire lives depend on it.

We would like to recognize the efforts of all Yemeni women and men, who have persevered through the darkest of times, struggling to preserve their lives in the midst of death. From makers and craftsmen to academics, writers, and activists, they have worked tirelessly to keep hope alive. Although the suffering and burden of war still exist, we take solace in the Yemeni proverb that says, “after wars there is well-being.”

We believe that all of this will end (wars, tyrants, armed groups, and interventions), and you, the Yemeni people, will remain. We hope that you will continue to choose building over destruction, education over ignorance, and life over death. As we celebrate this occasion, we want to remind you that you are the achiever in all of this; the ones who have remained loyal to the homeland when others have abandoned it, and who have found joy even when surrounded by the machines of destruction.

At Mwatana for Human Rights, we extend our warmest congratulations to all Yemeni civilians on the blessed Eid Al-Fitr. We hope for a future where this country is liberated from the illusions of power and the dialogue of guns, so that joy may open its heart to all of you. Happy Eid to all Yemeni civilians.
