Sana’a – Today, Mwatana concluded its campaign “Their Eid With Their Families”, which was an extension of the campaign “Their Ramadan With Their Families” that started on the first day of Ramadan April 13, 2021. The campaign aimed to shed light on the victims of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance of all parties to the conflict in Yemen.
Mwatana has published on its Arabic and English pages on social media platforms (Facebook and Twitter) 147 names of the victims of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance in prisons of Ansar Allah (Houthis), internationally recognized government of Yemen, and UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council. Moreover, Mwatana opened a new window within the campaign named “Messages From Broken Hearts” and published 35 messages hand written by the families of victims in Arabic to express their suffering and call for the release of their loved ones.
On May 3, 2020, Mwatana and Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies released a joint statement to call for urgent intervention needed to ensure release of four journalists detained and sentenced to death in Sana’a. Mwatana ended its campaign today by launching a video on Facebook and Twitter highlighting the necessity of releasing those arbitrarily detained given the risks of Covid19 spread and the bad conditions of the detention centers.
Mwatana calls on all parties in Yemen to release all arbitrarily detainees and forcibly disappeared and let them join their loved ones to share with them the joy of Eid Al Fitr. Hundreds of children gaze at their doors every day whenever someone knocks. Warring parties can give them a chance to rejoice; the joy that they have missed very much. We call for the immediate release of all arbitrarily detainees and forcibly disappeared to make it a happy Eid.
